U.S. Institute for Peace funds action-research to learn from Afghanistan's successful communities

Kabul – With a recent grant from the United States Institute of Peace, Future Generations will identify and learn from communities across Afghanistan that have successfully managed their security and development needs in the midst of conflict.  Using an action-research approach centered on the concept of Positive Deviance, the findings will be applied with communities, policymakers, and international actors in order to improve peacebuilding policy and practice. 

Future Generations Afghanistan - An Overview

Since 2002, Future Generations Afghanistan has strengthened the resourcefulness of Afghan communities. We promote a three-way partnership among communities, external actors, and governments to strengthen local agency and capacity for peacebuilding and community development.

Future Generations Arunachal - An Overview

The Women's Group of Rakso Village

The wildest jungles remaining in all of India and the country's most diverse tribal cultures are found in Arunachal Pradesh, a remote state in Northeast India where China and India meet.

Since 1997, we have partnered with Future Generations Arunachal (FGA), an independent Indian-registered charity. With 800 volunteers, 150 women's groups, farmer's clubs, and future clubs, the organization works to:

The Green Long March

From 2007-2010, 5,000 youth from 80 universities across China joined the Green Long March to promote environmental awareness and action on campuses and communities.

Alum, Bruce Mukwatu and the Zambia Academy of Community Change

Communities throughout Zambia have the local wisdom and resources to participate in and manage their own community development, particularly in the areas of health and agriculture. Future Generations alumus, Bruce Mukwatu, is creating the Zambia Academy of Community Change to train existing institutions and practitioners in how to work more effectively with communities and then link these groups together in an on-going process of learning.
