Planted trees

These trees illustrate the success that the Forest Bureau has had in planting and maintaining willows, poplars, and Chinese elms in parts of the Yarlung Tsangpo and adjoining valleys. The survival rate of more than three million saplings (from six million planted) has been remarkable. These trees will help reduce wind erosion, and numbers will eventually be pollarded, the branches used for fires and the leaves for fodder.
