Urban Wetland Preservation in Lhasa

The 650-hectacre Lhalu Wetlands, lying along part of the northern edge of Lhasa, is one of the largest urban wetlands in the world.  While protecting wetland species such as nesting redshanks, iridescent blue damselflies, and an aquatic smartweed is useful, the major benefit of this open space may be as an outdoor nature center, where schoolchildren and adults of the city may be exposed, through classes and visits, to the natural world of Tibet.
