Future Generations Professor Receives Global Child Survival Award
The CORE Group awarded its 10th Dory Storms Child Survival Recognition Award to Dr. Henry Perry, who served for six years as an endowed faculty member of the Future Generations Graduate School.
Dr. Perry was recognized for his vision, concern, intelligence, commitment, and love for people in the developing world. His efforts, as a founder of the Andean Rural Health Care (Curamericas Global), former director of Hospital Albert Schweitzer, and as an active member of the CORE Group, have resulted in more effective program implementation and improved the health of the poorest of the poor mothers, children, and infants in underserved communities.
During his award address, Dr. Perry shared a few words about the role that prior award recipients have played in his own life, including, most notably, Dory Storms, John Wyon, Warren and Gretchen Berggren, and Carl Taylor.
Dr. Perry said, “Serving for the past six years as the inaugural Carl Taylor Professor for Equity and Empowerment at Future Generations Graduate School and participating in its innovative graduate education and field programs in community development has enabled me to continue to be engaged with Carl Taylor, to still benefit from his wisdom, and to still be inspired by him. I have had many precious moments with him working together on the Review of the Effectiveness of Child Survival in Improving Child Health.”
Dr. Perry announce that the report, The Effectiveness of Community-based Primary Health Care in Improving Child Health, has been completed and shared with the Expert Panel of the International Section of the American Public Health Association. A journal supplement with findings will be published soon by the Journal of Health, Population and Nutrition. A copy is now available for download on www.future.org by clicking <here>.
