Update from Future Generations President, David Nygaard

This summer, Future Generations staff has been actively engaged in promoting the use of high-speed internet (broadband) throughout West Virginia’s communities by equipping fire and rescue squads with public computer centers. A team of community interviewers was recently conducted household surveys to assess computer and broadband use throughout the state.

Future Generations Alumna from Uganda strengthens partnerships to protect the endangered mountain gorilla

Last year Future Generations Graduate Student from Uganda, Joy Bongyereire, received a $10,000 Davis Peace Price to reduce conflict among local farmers and Uganda’s wildlife agencies over the management and protection of endangered mountain gorillas. In six months, Joy implemented a strategy that has increased community involvement in nature conservation, leading to more protection for gorillas and more benefits for local people neighboring the parks.

Afghanistan: Community Development Councils in Nangarhar Complete 31 Projects Based on Local Priorities

On June 15, 2010, the Afghanistan National Solidarity Programme (NSP) issued a press release recognizing the achievements of Community Development Councils (CDCs) in Khogyani District of Nangarhar Province. Since 2007, Future Generations Afghanistan has been working to build the capacity of these CDCs in local governance.
