Jason Calder
Jason Calder joined Future Generations in 2006 as research faculty and the Director of the Engaging Citizens and Communities in Peacebuilding project, funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York and others.
Prior to joining Future Generations he worked at the Atlanta-based Carter Center for 13 years where he was the Assistant Director of former President Jimmy Carter’s Global Development Initiative (GDI). GDI was a global program aimed at improving the effectiveness of international development assistance. It promoted the objectives of greater national ownership of development policy, enhanced civil society participation in democratic governance, and greater policy coherence of the international community towards developing countries. During its existence, GDI helped to establish new norms and principles for how the international community approaches aid and lending to the least developed countries.
At The Carter Center, he designed and managed GDI’s national dialogue and development planning initiatives in Albania, Guyana, and Mozambique which brought together political leaders, government officials, and civil society to build a common vision and strategy for their country’s future. He also supported GDI’s program on aid harmonization in Mali, established programmatic partnerships with official and nongovernmental organizations, organized three of the four GDI Development Cooperation Forums, and brought together strategic cross-programmatic initiatives involving the Center’s development, democratization, and conflict resolution teams. Mr. Calder also participated in Carter Center election observation delegations to Mexico (1994), Nicaragua (1996), Venezuela (1998), Nigeria (1999), Mozambique (voter registration 1999), Guyana (2001), Mozambique (2004), and Guyana (2006).
