Aljazeera features Peruvian Women's Action Groups and Soccer Leagues

A Woman Leader, Juana Estrada, trained by Future Generations Peru in maternal and child health, created a women's soccer league in rural Cusco that has the added benefit of bringing together older and younger women from remote villages to gain health knowledge and discuss shared challenges.

Forbes.com features Future Generations Graduate School

On July 20, 2011, a press conference on Capitol Hill announced a Microsoft donation of $2 million in software for non-profit organizations in Appalachia. The Future Generations Graduate School received approximately $70,000 in software donations to be used in public computer centers based in volunteer fire departments across West Virginia.

Since 2003, the Master's Degree program in Applied Community Change and Conservation has equipped these women with skills in such areas as conservation, empowerment, health, and peacebuilding. These women learn these skills while living in their communities interacting with faculty and sharing lessons with each other during four one-month residentials.

Term III Master’s Degree Residential in Peru: Tools for Empowerment

The rural Quechuan community of Pitumarca in Cusco, Peru, has become a model site and regional training center for health and integrated development. In March 2011 students representing seven countries learned from this success and Peru’s community-oriented health system as part of the Term III residential of the Master’s Degree program in Applied Community Change and Conservation. Courses in “Going to Scale,” “Food and Water Security,” and “Empowerment,” wove theory with case studies, field applications, and experiences from each student’s own community.

Small Business Survey Report of Computer and Broadband Use in West Virginia

Future Generations recently led a series of three weekend training sessions for 40 computer mentors across West Virginia. Training, held regionally in Beckley, Moorefield and Flatwoods, focused on technical skills and community outreach.
