In 2007, Kuresoi was the site of major post-electoral violence in Kenya.  As we look towards national elections in 2013, a new institution is springing up on the landscape, one determined to beat the violence by building peace.

The United States Institute of Peace (USIP) highlighted the Future Generations Graduate School's MA program in its recent newsletter. Pending upcoming authorization, the Future Generations Graduate School is offering a Master's Degree in Applied Community Change with a concentration in peacebuilding in collaboration with USIP.

Three High Schools in Khogyani District of Nangarhar Province are opening new horticultural training centers to stimulate economic options for youth. Youth will learn skills in planning, planting, and managing tree orchards and will also study the benefits of horticulture for the region’s environment and economy.

On June 15, 2010, the Afghanistan National Solidarity Programme (NSP) issued a press release recognizing the achievements of Community Development Councils (CDCs) in Khogyani District of Nangarhar Province. Since 2007, Future Generations Afghanistan has been working to build the capacity of these CDCs in local governance.

Kabul – With a recent grant from the United States Institute of Peace, Future Generations will identify and learn from communities across Afghanistan that have successfully managed their security and development needs in the midst of conflict.  Using an action-research approach centered on the concept of Positive Deviance, the findings will be applied with communities, policymakers, and international actors in order to improve peacebuilding policy and practice.
