Future Generations advances four demonstrations of community change and conservation. Communities and governments learn to build on successes in maternal and child health, nature conservation, peace building, income generation, and governance. Local successes grow to have regional and national level impact.
Four countries are strategic areas of focus.
Afghanistan: Across four insecure provinces, more than 300 village councils have established literacy and health classes for 21,000 women and girls in homes and mosques.
China: In Tibet, 600 volunteers known as Pendebas spread conservation concepts and improve health among families living within nature preserves. Nationwide, the Green Long March involves students from 50 universities.
India: More than 800 volunteers, 150 women’s groups and farmer’s clubs to realize Gandhi's dream of governance at the village level.
Peru: 2,100 communities partner with government to manage primary health care facilities. Future Generations Peru strengthens this national system and has reduced chronic child malnutrition from 46% to 18% in pilot sites.
